Adventure Sports around Lima

Lima is a wonderful, vibrant city filled with many things to do and places to see. However, if you are looking to do some adventure sports while visiting, Lima and its surroundings offer plenty of options.  Escape to nature and enjoy trekking, take your first surf lesson in the Pacific Ocean or for the more daring, paraglide above the Lima Coast. Whatever your extreme sport preference Lima has plenty of adventure spots to offer. These are a few of our favorite options:

Trekking Lomas de Lucumo

Lomas de Lucumo is the perfect day trip if you are looking for a break from the buzz of the city and want to enjoy being surrounded by nature combined with some adventure. It’s surprising that just an hour away (34 km) away from Lima there is such a unique ecosystem where ocean mist gets trapped amongst the hills of Lomas de Lucumo, providing the moisture needed to create  green sloping hills and vegetation of more than 300 acres while surrounded by desert. The best time to visit is in the humid season, from June to November, where the mist contrasts with the rock formations, abandoned gold mine and lucuma trees covering the hills.Trek lovers will love the expansive network of hiking trails within the park. If you are lucky you may find foxes, owls, vizcachas and more.

Surfing Costa Verde

Peru is home to almost 2,500 km of Pacific Coastlines, providing some of the best waves in the world. If you have always been interested in water sports, Lima provides one of the best breaks for people wanting to learn to surf. Right beneath the Miraflores and Barranco cliffs are the Costa Verde beaches that provide perfect waves for beginners. If you already have experience surfing, Punta Roquitas Beach, also beneath the Miraflores cliff is great for intermediate and advanced surfers looking for consistent waves with boulders along the shoreline. However, if you are a beginner, we can happily organize lessons for you. It’s convenient and fun to learn on such an easy swell all year round, so close to the popular tourist districts!

Parapente in Barranco

If you are an adventure lover, paragliding over the Lima coast should be on your bucket list! Paragliding in Miraflores is one of the main attractions and you will see paragliders swooping above when you are walking on the boardwalk but now there is also paragliding over the bohemian district of Barranco. The thrill of flying combined with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, the green cliffs, modern buildings and the cool attractions of Barranco are offered by many paragliding companies. A pilot will guide you above the Barranco cliff and every safety measure is considered. In a 10-minute flight you will reach up to 250 meters of height! Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a mix of tourism, history and adventure with the best views of Lima.

MTB el Morro Solar

Mountain cycling, known worldwide as mountain biking on a natural trail, with sections of climbs, descents and plains is a popular sport in the recreational park of “El Morro Solar”. This cluster of hills is located further south of Miraflores and Barranco in the district of Chorrillos, occupying almost 3 square miles. It’s such a perfect place for mountain biking (MTB) that it was used as the site for the Mountain Bike competition in the Panamerican Games held this year. There are several tracks to choose from, but most are recommended to people that have some basic mountain bike experience. A tour guide will help you choose the trek based on your experience and energy but expect to climb around 250 feet with your bike to later enjoy the downhill fun.
