Kuntur Wasi Viewpoint
Located to the southeast of the city, the Kuntur Wasi Viewpoint offers you the chance to appreciate, from a panoramic view, the whole region. To access the viewpoint, take the road up to it or climb the 620 steps to the monument’s base. The site honors the much respected Andean condor.
Chullpas de Sillustani
The Chullpas de Sillustani are located in the Atuncoya district on the shores of Lake Titicaca in Puno. They are a series of buildings that once served as funerary monuments. They’re most famous for their 12-meter height and strange form, with the base being smaller than the top. The Chullpas de Sillustani are considered one of the largest and strangest cemeteries in South America
Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world with a maximum depth of 227 meters. This lake is also an important part of Inca folklore. The legend goes that Incas Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo emerged from its waters and founded the Inca Empire. You’ll find many birds and endangered fish in and around the lake, including red knots and fish of great nutritional value.
The Floating Islands of the Uros
This set of floating islands is inhabited by indigenous settlers. Their main activity and livelihood is fishing and hunting. The women of the tribe are widely recognized for their great weaving abilities.
Taquile Island
Taquile Island is located 30 km from the city of Puno and is distinguished for its pre-Inca relics. The island’s inhabitants maintain Inca customs and traditions to this day.
Bay of the Incas
This pedestrian passage reveals a view of the sukankas and intihuatanas, whose main function during the time of the Incas was as a solar clock. According to historians these clocks were used to indicate when sacrifices and ceremonial acts would occur.
Remains of the Inca Uyo
Located in Chucuito, 18 km from Puno, this site was part of the Temple of Fertility built during Inca times.
