Itinerary

Day 1Cusco

Upon arrival to Cusco airport you will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of the morning free to relax and slowly acclimatize. In the afternoon pick up from your hotel for a city and nearby ruins tour on a group basis. Leaving by vehicle we wind our way on the road to Sacsayhuaman, a vast fortress built on three platforms overlooking the city of Cusco. From here we continue to Kenko, a site of worship with a large rock carved into the shape of a Puma, which dominates a series of canals and passageways painted with animals. The road continues uphill to reach Pucapucara and Tambomachay, a site with Inca baths. Return to Cusco, and visit the main sites around the Plaza de Armas. The Inca walls with its 12 angled stone and the Sun Temple of Koricancha inside the Santo Domingo Church. Overnight in Cusco hotel, meals on your own. L

Day 2CUSCO – VALLE SAGRADO

Pick up from hotel, a 45 minute bus ride will take you to the Sacred Valley for a full day group visit to the Pisac market and then on to Ollantaytambo, an attractive little village located at the western end of the Sacred Valley, which has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca urban planning. The village is divided in canchas (blocks), which are almost entirely intact. Each cancha has only one entrance (usually a huge stone doorway) that leads into a central courtyard. We will also visit the Inca ruins situated on a hilltop landscape with surrounding terracing and cyclopean rock carvings. From the hill-top there is an extraordinary view of the village below and the surrounding countryside. Return to your lodging in the Sacred Valley at the end of the day. B/L

Day 3VALLE SAGRADO – MACHU PICCHU

Early transfer from your hotel to the train station at Ollantaytambo for a two hour ride down the Urubamba gorge, as it changes from mountain vegetation to cloud forest, until arrival at the station of Machu Picchu Village. Then, a half hour bus ride will bring you to the citadel for a group guided visit as your official guide walks you through the different sectors of the hill-top citadel, with astonishing views, telling you aspects of life here that will take you back in time. Lunch is included in Machu Picchu Village, hotel overnight and dinner on your own. B/L
