Fair Travel

Fair Travel is a German NGO which aims at supporting the rural population of different tourism destinations toward an ecologically sustainable utilization of their resources through hands-on, practical training combined with long-term reforestation projects. This way, Fair Travel offers an alternative source of income while protecting the environment and the long-term living conditions in the region. The concept is to achieve this in an uncomplicated and transparent way in cooperation with the tourists who visit these regions. In the latter part of 2006, Explorandes helped connect the NGO with a reforestation project in Peru with a first effort of 12,000 planted trees of native species. This on-going effort will continue to grow with your support. We are suscribing to Fair Travel and figuring an agreement with them which maounts to contributing $1.00 for each tourist we receive in Peru. These funds will go to finance the planting of seedlings of native species of trees. Initially this will take place in the Municipal Conservation Area of Pachatusan, the Apu of Cusco within view of most tourists arriving in Cusco. In exchange we are able to use their logo and symbols on our stationary, marketing materials and include it in our literature. The focal representative in Peru is APTAE, the Peruvian Association of Aventure Travel and Ecotourism who is in charge of monitoring results. As the initiatie evolves, we will keep you informed.
