Cultural Tour
Rainbow Peru

On this trip we will visit colonial and modern Lima, fly over the Nazca lines and visit the National Marine Reserve in Paracas.  Travel to the amazon basin rainforest to a lodge on a dugout canoe and walk rainforest trails.  Visit Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the famed citadel of Machu Picchu.

Day 1 LIMA

Arrival and transfer to your hotel.  If you arrive early we can arrange optional tours to museums or to visit the city and surrounding sites.  Overnight at hotel, lunch and dinner on your own.


Day 2 LIMA/ ICA

Early departure by coach to Ica – the comfortable bus will take you to this desert city traversing various lush valleys that cut through the Atacama Desert.  Arrival and check-in at your hotel.
Afternoon optional flight over the Nazca lines.  Lunch and dinner on your own, Overnight at hotel. B


Day 3 PARACAS / LIMA

After breakfast a vehicle will take you to the National Reserve of Paracas, the only marine protected area in Peru.  A chance to take a boat ride to Islas Ballestas, a small island filled with marine bird life as well as sea-lions.  The tour begins in the morning with the boat trip to the Ballestas Islands where we can find a lot of Marine Wildlife.  After 15 minutes of travel towards the Islands we will appreciate "The Chandelier" an enigmatic figure sculpted in the sand on the side of a sand hill, overlooking the ocean. After two hours we will return to the pier promenade of "El Chaco" where, after refreshments we’ll head towards Tambo Colorado, one of the best preserved architectural complexes in Peru despite being built with adobe (mud bricks).  Tambo Colorado Archaeological Complex was an Inca Administrative Center, located at a narrow point of the Pisco River Valley, in a corner formed by the hills near the town of Humay. The name given is due to the predominance of red in the buildings. Typically Tawantinsuyu in its outline and architectural design it is unique. In being built of adobe, as an example of the adaptation of the Quechua architects and engineers to the new coastal environment that they were beginning to conquer. In the late afternoon a bus will take us to Lima.  Overnight at hotel, dinner on your own.  B


Day 4 - 5 PUERTO MALDONADO

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado in the rainforest of Southeastern Peru. Meet and greet at airport and canoe transport to your lodge. There are various options for lodges in the area, according to space availability we will send you to one of the three options that we work with, all offering an exceptional rainforest experience.  Most entail orientation talks on arrival, walks through trails in the forest led by naturalist guides, night time excursions on dug-out canoes, float rides to watch fauna on the shore line and in the canopy layers.  All meals are included as well as transportation in vehicles and canoes.  B/L/D


Day 6 CUSCO

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Cusco. On arrival in the course of the morning, you will be transferred to a hotel, rest of the morning free to acclimatize, lunch on your own.  Depending on arrival time, optional tour of the city and nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Tambomachay and visit the main sites in the city – Inca temples and colonial churches.  Overnight at hotel, dinner on your own. B


Day 7 SACRED VALLEY / OLLANTAYTAMBO

Full day excursion to visit the main sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas with guided tours of the archaeological remains. Lunch on route, and overnight at a local hotel, dinner on your own. Depending on hotel availability additional activities can be organized from some of the country inns.  B/L


Day 8 MACHU PICCHU

Early transfer from your hotel to the train station in the Sacred Valley.  A two hour ride down the Urubamba gorge as it changes from mountain vegetation to cloud forest, arrival at the station of Machu Picchu Pueblo.  A bus ride will bring you to the citadel for a full day guided visit, with lunch included and afternoon return to the village; spend the night at a local hotel, dinner on your own.  B/L


Day 9 MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO

Early rise for those who want an optional visit to the ruins. The other option is to stay around the village, relax in your hotel or take a walk in the surrounding cloud-forest.  Lunch on your own.  Afternoon train return to Cusco, where we will arrive in the evening.  Transfer to your hotel, dinner on your own. B


Day 10 CUSCO / OUT

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your ongoing connecting flight to another destination inside the region or back home. B
