Huchuyqosqo hike
|
It lies at an elevation of 3600 meters (11,800 feet), above the town of Lamay and the Sacred Valley, its name is Quechua for "Little Cuzco." Amongst a large number of buildings, some stone, some adobe, is a kallanka (great hall), 40m long. Providing water to the site is an Inca built irrigation channel, lined with stones for about 800m. Although not directly accessible by road, a dirt road leaving Lamay runs a long set of switch backs and arrives at a viewpoint of the ruins.

7:00am pick up from your hotel either in Cusco or the Sacred Valley and transfer to Piuray Lake to begin your trek to Huchuy Qosqo. On the shores of the Lake Piuray we will begin the hike uphill towards the Puna- a sparsely vegetated, treeless stretches cover high plateau where it is possible to see herds of Alpacas and Llamas. After our Boxed Lunch we continue towards the Apacheta pass (4,200m) we descend to Huchuyqosqo, overlooking the snowcapped mountains of the Sacred Valley. Overnight Camp. B,L,D |

| Day 2 HUCHUY QOSQO/CUSCO |
Early wake up with a nice breakfast we will visit Huchuyqosqo site. These ruins have three storage Inca structures made of stone and adobe (mud-brick). This archaeological site was built on the top of the mountain with clear blue skies above and streams running on the bottom. After enjoying the site we will cross the open terrain and follow the zigzag trail down the face of the mountain, until we meet our vehicle in Lamay Village that will take you to Cusco. B |
