The Amazon rainforest is a moist broad leaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America.
Hosting a magnificent biodiversity, this area constitutes the largest collection of living plants and animal species in the world.

PUERTO MALDONADO/ Tambopata National Reserve

Exuberant, endless rainforests with marvelous rivers and lakes teeming with wildlife characterize this destination which is the gateway to some of Peru’s most famous and magnificent National Parks and Wildlife Reserves. Over 800 species of birds, 200 species of mammals, and the largest number of species of butterflies on Earth are just some of the records that this corner of Peru holds. From Puerto Maldonado, a number of jungle lodges are available with different options to explore the fascinating rainforest of southern Peru, home to such wonderful and diverse species as toucans, macaws, parrots, tapirs, giant anteaters, turtles, river otters and sloths.

IQUITOS
Altitude: 106 m. / 347 ft.
Best time to visit: December - May (High water season)

The largest city in the Peruvian rainforest, with a population of 370,962. It is generally considered the most populous city in the world that cannot be reached by road.
Navigating its waters is getting in direct contact with the nature and lore of the natives that live there, it is watching the sun setting behind the treetops and marveling at the endless greenery.

MANU NATIONAL PARK
A biosphere reserve located in Madre de Dios and Paucartambo, Cusco. Before becoming an area protected by the Peruvian government, the Manú National Park was conserved thanks to its inaccessibility. The park remains fairly inaccessible by road to this day.
The park protects several ecological zones ranging from as low as 150 meters above sea level in parts of the Amazon Basin to Puna grassland at altitudes of 4200 meters. Because of this topographical range, it has one of highest levels of biodiversity of any park in the world. Overall, more than 15,000 species of plants are found in Manú, and up to 250 varieties of trees have been found in a single hectare.
