In the early 70s the first rafters arrived from overseas to explore and run Peruvian White Water Rivers. They found the rivers extremely beautiful and navigable in many different sections, the Urubamba River being one of the best waters to begin rafting or experience some adrenaline pumping rapids. The Urubamba River runs trough the Sacred Valley of the Incas, which contains many ancient Inca ruins, market places and great picnic sites close to the river. Depending on your level of experience in rafting you may choose from the following adventures: Ollantaytambo, Huaran, Chuquicahuana. At the end of the day there is a chance for an optional visit to archaeological sites of Pikillacta, Pisac or Ollantaytambo depending on the section of the river which was rafted.
Note: Special rates available for groups. Rivers are categorized by an international table of grades, varying from one through five, grade six is impossible to raft. The Urubamba varies from grades II to IV, depending on the section of the river and time of the year. |
