East of Carhuaz, a village in the Callejón de Huaylas we take a road to the Ulta Valley. After an ascent of over an hour and a half by vehicle we start our hike along the Catay valley slowly ascending towards Auquiscocha, a Lake located amidst granitic plaques with a magnificent view of Mt. Hualcan and Chequiaraju at 4,319m (14,166 ft). In the afternoon return to Huaraz (or environs). |
