Above Huaraz, after an hours drive, we arrive at the entrance of the Huascaran National Park. From here we start the hike along a ridge, giving you breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and snow-capped peaks of the central part of the Cordillera Blanca - the highest snow-capped mountain range in the tropics. We hike through a small queuña forest and scramble up a trail next to a stream finally reaching Lake Churup (4,450 m / 14,600 ft), a beautiful, deep blue lake at the foot of the icy peak of the same name. A moderate to strenuous hike good for those acclimatizing for a longer trek or mountain climb. |
