We depart due south along the Callejon de Huaylas until we reach Ccatac. We take a detour east and pass through the Cordillera Blanca, passing by the Querococha Lake through the Kawish tunnel at 4,550 meters (14,924 ft). Once on the other side, the Callejon de Conchucos comes into view, with many of its Andean villages such as Tambillos and Machaq.
After a couple of hours, we arrive at the village of Huantar and Chavin where we find the temple of the same name. This place holds many mysteries in its interesting carvings and architecture. Recently work undertaken has uncovered a labyrinth of tunnels and caves inside the main mound that overlooks the ceremonial plaza. After visiting this site, we will return to Huaraz.
